Arizona Men’s Golf completes a historic second round of the NCAA Marana Regional on Tuesday at The Gallery Golf Club, remaining in first place at 35-under overall through 36 holes.
The Wildcats fired a record breaking round of 24-under par as a team, which is the lowest 18-hole team score in Arizona history. Also, 24-under par is the second-lowest 18-hole team score in relation to par at an NCAA Regional.
Leading the way for Arizona was Zach Pollo, who delivered a 9-under 63 in the second round. Pollo carded 10 birdies on the day, including a scorching 6-under stretch over his opening seven holes, to move to 9-under overall and in fourth individually.
Filip Jakubcik and Taishi Moto each turned in rounds of 5-under on Tuesday. Jakubcik recorded a bogey-free round that include three bidires and an eagle. He sits at 10-under overall through two rounds and in third individually. Moto shook off a slow start with a stretch of five birdies in a row. He had a total of eight birdies and is now tied for fifth individually.
Tianyi Xiong also contributed a 5-under round for the Wildcats, highlighted by six birdies in his final 12 holes. Xiong climbed to 3-under overall heading into the final round. William Wistrand rounded out Arizona’s lineup with a 1-under 71 and is 4-under overall entering Wednesday’s final round.
Arizona is tied for the most birdies through 36 holes and has the least amount of bogeys out of any team. Zach Pollo and Taishi Moto have dominated the par 3’s playing them 3-under which is best in the field. Filip Jakubcik and Pollo both have a par 4 scoring average of 3.75 which is second best amongst the field.
Arizona will start their final round at 7:00am MST.
