Madsen Tabbed WGCA Second Team All-American

RALEIGH – Marie Eline Madsen of the NC State women’s golf team has been recognized with Women’s Golf Coaches Association Second Team All-America honors for the second consecutive season. She is the first player in program history to earn back-to-back All-America nods after previously being the first NC State women’s golfer to receive First, Second or Third Team All-America honors from the WGCA last season.

Madsen finished her sophomore season by breaking the single-season scoring record for the second consecutive year with a 70.88 average with 24 rounds at par or better and 11 rounds in the 60s. She earned three wins, seven top 10 finishes and 10 top 20 showings in 11 tournaments. Her three wins tacked on to her career win total of five, which also broke a school record as only a sophomore.

She started the season on a high note by winning the Cougar Classic behind a school record 15-under 198 (69-67-62). The 62 in the final round marked a career-low and the second lowest 18-hole score in school history. Madsen also won the Daniel Island Invitational with a 7-under 209 (70-71-68) and the City of Oaks Collegiate with a 2-under 214 (74-68-72). She became the ACC Co-Golfer of the Month in March following those two wins and averaging a 70.75 stroke average, marking the third Wolfpack player and first since 2018 to win the monthly award.

In postseason play, Madsen carded a 6-under 210 (67-74-69) at the ACC Championship, marking another program record. Her 67 in the first round marked the second-best 18-hole score at an ACC Championship in school history. She also logged 13th at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional with a 1-over 211 (69-70-72).

Madsen finished the season ranked No. 26 in the Scoreboard Powered by Clippd Ranking and is currently No. 22 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Throughout the season, Madsen was tabbed to the ANNIKA Award Watch List for the fall, spring and postseason.

Additionally, Madsen was named to the All-ACC Team for the second straight year, becoming the fourth Wolfpack golfer to earn all-conference honors in back-to-back seasons. She was invited to and played in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and has been invited to represent Team International in the Arnold Palmer Cup in Ireland this summer.

Across her two-year career at NC State, Madsen has logged a 71.06 scoring average with 15 top 10 finishes and 21 top 20 showings across 23 career tournaments.
