Lewis Tied First as #5 Vols Sit Third Ahead of Round Two at NCAA Austin Regional


AUSTIN, Texas – Tennessee redshirt senior Bryce Lewis is tied for first individually while the Vols are in third as a team following round one of NCAA Regionals at University of Texas Golf Club.
 
After two more rounds of stroke play—set to be contested on Tuesday and Wednesday—the top five teams from the Austin Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, which are scheduled to take place from May 24-39 at Omni La
Costa’s Champions Course in Carlsbad, California.
 
Lewis gave UT its best score on day one after firing a 4-under 67. The Hendersonville, Tennessee, native shot 2-under on each side and used six total birdies en route to his first-round score.
 
Even amidst a three-hour weather delay in round one, the No. 5 Vols shot 8-under with four golfers going under-par.
 
Lance Simpson gave Tennessee its second-best opening round score after firing a 2-under 69. Simpson shot 2-under on the front nine and even-par after making the turn. The redshirt sophomore enters round two tied for 11th.
 
Jake Hall and Evan Woosley-Reed posted a pair of 1-under 70s to open NCAA Regional play.
 
The duo enters round two tied for 18th.
 
Bruce Murphy shot a 73 during Monday’s round and is tied for 43rd ahead of day two.
