Men’s golf opens season at Visit Knoxville Collegiate

LOUDON, Tenn. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team opened its 2024-25 season with a 16th-place showing at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate hosted by the University of Tennessee, Friday-Sunday. The three-day, 54-hole event was contested at Tennessee National Golf Club in Loudon, Tenn.

Led by redshirt junior Gareth Steyn, the Hokies fired rounds of 293-310-297. The Joondalup, Australia native carded a final-round 69 (-1) to tie for 52nd in the individual standings.

LSU edged SEC counterpart Ole Miss for the team title at 23-under 817 (268-269-280). The Rebels were two strokes back at 21-under 819 (269-267-283).

Algot Kleen of LSU carded a 12-under 198 (66-65-67) to claim medalist honors by four shots over Cameron Tankersley of Ole Miss.

Tech returns to action Sept. 22-23 at the Rod Myers Invitational hosted by Duke. Teams will compete over two days at Duke University Golf Club in Durham, N.C.
