Nebraska’s Reed Malleck, Hamish Murray and Evan McDermott were honored as preseason Big Ten Men’s Golfers to Watch by the conference on Thursday, Sept. 12.

Malleck, a graduate student from York, Neb., is in his fifth season as a Husker after earning his bachelor’s degree in finance in May. The 2024 Nebraska Amateur Champion has competed in 60 rounds for the Big Red during his career, including a pair of Big Ten Championship appearances.  He was a GCAA Scholar All-American in 2024 and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2022. He is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a seven-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll choice. He earned spots on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2021, 2023 and 2024 and was a member of the Nebraska Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2023-24. He was also a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner in 2023.

A senior from Sydney, Australia, Murray is in his second season at Nebraska after two outstanding years at Cameron University. Murray led the Huskers with a 72.69 stroke average in 2023-24, while notching a team-best five top-25 tournament finishes. He added another top-25 finish to open the 2024-25 season at the Gopher Invitational (Sept. 8-9). Murray was a 2024 GCAA Scholar All-American and earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2023-24 with perfect 4.0 grade-point averages. Nebraska’s 2024 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner, Murray was a member of the 2024 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team and participated in Nebraska’s No Filter Service Trip to Panama in the summer of 2024.

McDermott continues to emerge in his third year as a Husker after taking a redshirt season in 2023-24. The sophomore from Spring Lake, Mich., finished third at the Nebraska Amateur Championship this summer, trailing only Malleck and Murray as the Big Red swept the top three spots. McDermott competed in 20 rounds for Nebraska as a true freshman in 2022-23, and was NU’s No. 1 qualifier for the season-opening Gopher Invitational earlier this week. A mechanical engineering major, McDermott earned Academic All-Big Ten accolades in 2024. He is a three-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. He also earned a spot on the 2024 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. He is serving on the Nebraska Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2024-25.

The Huskers return to action when they play host to the Git-R-Done Invitational at Firethorn Golf Club (Sept. 23-24).
