UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – The Women of Troy kicked off the season on the right foot, as they lead by two strokes after two rounds at the Leadership and Golf Invitational on Monday, Sept. 16, at Chambers Bay G.C. in University Place, Wash.
USC continues to show its skills at Chambers Bay, taking the lead after two rounds, just as it did a year ago. This story played out a little differently, however, as the Trojans opened the first round slowly, posting a two-over par and sitting in fifth. They fired back in the second with a tournament-best seven-under-par second round and now sit two ahead of former Pac-12 foe Colorado.
Junior Catherine Park is the front-runner for the Women of Troy, posting a 67-73 in rounds one and two to put her eighth at four-under-par. Park started her first round with a bogey but overcame that with an eagle on hole No. 4 and then four more birdies to give her an opening round in the 60s. Following her is sophomore Bailey Shoemaker, who is one-under par after two rounds. Shoemaker carded a 73 (+1) and a 70 (-2) to give her a 12th-place spot on the leaderboard.
The final two counting players for the Women of Troy are senior Xin (Cindy) Kou and freshman Jasmine Koo. Kou flipped scores on the day with a five-over-par first round and a five-under-par second. Koo made her debut with a 73 (+1) and a 71 (-1) to push her into a tie for 14th with Kou.
Freshman Kylie Chong rounded out the group with a seven-over par first two rounds (77-75).
The Women of Troy will head into the second day hoping to remain on top for an opening-week win. They start their final 18 holes at 8 a.m. tomorrow in University Place, Wash., at Chambers Bay G.C.
