Cougars Set to Compete at The Molly in California


PULLMAN, Wash. (September 28, 2024) – Washington State Women’s Golf heads to northern California for The Molly Collegiate Invitational hosted by Oregon State University.

The Course and Tournament Format

The 2024 Molly Collegiate Invitational will be held at Bayonet Black Golf Course in Seaside, Calif.

 

The course will play as a par-72 at 6,147 yards.

Teams will play 36 holes Monday and wrap up the tournament with 18 holes Tuesday.

The Field

In addition to Washington State and host Oregon State, California, Nevada, Rutgers, Sacramento State, San Francisco, San Jose State, Stanford, UC Davis and Washington will make up the 11-team field.

Tournament History

Washington State played in The Molly last season where then-freshman Alice Johansson set the program record for lowest score to par for a 54-hole event and equaled the school record with a 6-under-par, 66, on the final day. As a team, the Cougars shot their best round of the tournament Tuesday, firing a 2-under, 286 to finish the two-day event at +12, 876, in eighth place. Oregon and California tied for the team championship at -28, 836, five strokes ahead of first-day leader San Jose State.

Last Time Out

Sophomore Alice Johansson picked up more hardware, sharing the Ptarmigan Ram Classic individual title in Colorado Tuesday. Johansson, who opened the season winning the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational hosted by Kentucky two weeks ago, entered the final round with a two-stroke lead after firing a 69 and school-record 65 in Monday’s opening rounds. The Bollnäs, Sweden native closed the tournament with a one-under 71 to finish with a 54-hole school-record 205(-11) and share the individual title with Abigail Leighton from UC Davis who shot a final round 66.  The Cougars finished the tournament in 11th place and recorded the sixth-best team score amongst the field in Tuesday’s final round.
