Freshman Jack Buchanan and USC Both Sit Second After Round Two at Trinity Forest

Men’s Golf | October 07, 2024

DALLAS – Freshman Jack Buchanan and the Trojans dropped one spot on day two as they both continue to compete for a pair of trophies; Buchanan is one stroke back of the individual lead, and USC is one stroke back of the team lead after another stellar round two at the Trinity Forest Invitational hosted by SMU on Monday, Oct. 7, at the Trinity Forest Golf Club, Dallas, TX.

For the second straight round, the Trojans fired double-digits under par (-10), improving to 25-under par for the tournament. USC sits second among the 15-team field, trailing UNLV (-26) by one stroke heading into the final day.

The Trojans continued to get solid scores out of the entire lineup, as the four counting scores were 69-69-69-71. The Trojans had three individuals in the 60s, with the squad totaling a ten under-par, 278 in round two.

Three USC athletes carded a 69 (-3) on the day: Buchanan, senior Gavin Aurilia, and junior Antonio Safa. Buchanan sits highest on the leaderboard, entering the day as the leader at eight-under-par and leaving round two in second place at 11-under par. The freshman posted his first few bogeys of the tournament but brought his birdie total to 14 (six today) in two rounds. Aurilia is the second-highest player on the leaderboard for the Trojans, as he is tied for 7th at seven-under-par. The senior is eyeing his third top-ten finish for his career, and second this fall, as he sits within the top ten by a shot. Safa is the final top scorer of the day, as he rallied from a two-over-par round yesterday to put himself back to below par for the tournament. The junior moved up 26 spots on the day two, as he only posted one bogey on the day.

Sophomore Jack Jerge and redshirt freshman Tyler Greenspahn both carded a 71 (-1) during round two. Jerge sits just outside the top ten, as he is six-under-par for the tournament and currently a stroke back of a top-ten placement. Greenspahn tied his season best tournament round, as he has now posted 71 (-1) three times this fall.

The Trojans head into Round Three at the Trinity Forest Invitational starting at 8:10 a.m. PT/10:10 a.m. CT tomorrow at the Trinity Forest Golf Course.
