Jasmine Koo Wins Individual Title as USC Shares Stanford Intercollegiate Title

Women’s Golf | October 20, 2024

STANFORD, Calif. – Freshman Jasmine Koo became the first USC freshman since Amari Avery (2021-22) to win back-to-back individual titles as she helped lead the Women of Troy to a share of the Stanford Intercollegiate team title on Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.

USC tied for the third-lowest round in program history (271) in the final round of the Stanford Intercollegiate as it overcame a five-stroke deficit to tie Stanford for the team title. The Trojans now have two wins on the season (Leadership and Golf Invitational; Sept. 16-17).

“We’re very pleased with the result this week as we had to work very hard and very smart for this one,” head coach Justin Silverstein said. “We believe that we have a great plan to attack this golf course, and it was admirable how well the team committed to that. Jasmine and Catherine put up amazing performances, but this was a complete 1-5 team win. We leave here satisfied with the win but know we have things we need to sharpen up before East Lake.”

Koo earned her second-straight win after going six-under-par and finishing 11-under for the tournament. The freshman’s title means that USC has now won three straight, the first time since Annie Park won three straight individual awards in 2012-13.

At the end of the tournament, Koo had to fend off one other player, her teammate, junior Catherine Park. Park tied the USC record for a single round, posting a 63 (-8) on the day. The junior entered the final round trailing by six strokes and made it her mission to overcome that initial deficit. Park claimed eight birdies, one eagle, and two bogeys during the round and finished as the individual runner-up. Koo birdied seven of the last 13 holes as she held off Park to give her the individual title.

Senior Xin (Cindy) Kou posted a 70 (-1) as she finished out the tournament tied for 51st at nine-over par.

Sophomore Bailey Shoemaker finished even-par for the tournament as she was two-over par for the day. The final player for the Trojans was freshman Kylie Chong, as she was 10-over par overall and was five-over par on the day.
