Women's Golf Tied for 5th After Two Rounds at Paradise Invitational

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Rutgers women’s golf wrapped up play in the first two rounds of the Paradise Invatational in warm and sunny conditions in south Florirda on Monday afternoon.

With one round to play, the Scarlet Knights sit in a tie for fifth with Texas Tech at 572 (288-284).

“I am happy with the way we played today to open up our spring season,” head coach Kari Williams said. “The team worked diligently to prepare for the tournament and their work paid off, especially on the greens. We had a few errors off the tee but they did a great job staying focused and calm, bouncing back on the next holes to stay on track. Joline and Lorena had great rounds today to lead us and I’m excited to see what they can do tomorrow.”

Joline Truong led the way with a strong opening two rounds, shooting a 4-under 140 (69-71) to finish the day in a tie for eighth place. Lorena Rossettin is just behind her in a tie for 11th after a 4-under 68 in round two helped her climb the leaderboard.

Rounds 1 & 2 – Monday, February 3rd

Weather: Sunny, Temps in high 70s, 5-10 mph winds

Truong put together two rounds under-par, highlighted by a 3-under 69 in her first round. She followed that up with a 1-under 71 in the second round, rolling in four birdies in each for a total of eight on the day.

“My shots into greens were solid today and I putted well,” Truong said. “My goal after starting well was to stay calm and patient, and I think I did a good job with that. I feel good on these greens and want to keep it going tomorrow.”

Lorena Rossettin shot a 1-over 73 in her opening round, highlighted by three straight birdies on holes 1-3. She had the best round of the day by a Scarlet Knight in her second, shooting a 4-under 68, picking up five birdies to just one bogey to vault up to a tie for 11th.

“I had a lot of trust in my putter today and rolled in a lot of good putts,” Rossettin said. “That allowed me to swing a little more free and I scrambled well when I needed to. We’re growing more comfortable on this course and we’re excited to come back for round three.”

Grace Lu put together a pair of consistent rounds, shooting an even-par 72 in both rounds to put her in a tie for 21st. Lu posted three birdies in her first round and then carded 16 pars to pace the second.

After a 2-over 74 in her first round, Judy Amano rolled in four birdies in her second round for a 1-over 73, finishing the day with a 3-over 147 and in a tie for 49th.
