University of Missouri men’s golf heads to the Aloha State this week for the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, starting on Wednesday.
TOURNAMENT INFO
The John A. Burns Intercollegiate is celebrating its 48th edition of the tournament, marking the seventh-longest running tournament in the country. The action will take place over three days, beginning with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. CT / 9 a.m. HT each day.
Joining the Tigers in the 17-team tournament field are host Hawaii, No. 10 Illinois, No. 16 Utah, No. 21 BYU, No. 23 San Diego State, No. 28 Texas A&M, No. 39 Long Beach State, No. 40 UNLV, California, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, New Mexico, Saint Mary’s, Santa Clara, UTEP and Washington State,
The teams are set to compete on the par-70 Ocean Course at Kokuala, which measures 7,098 yards long.
MIERL SHINES IN SPRING OPENER
Freshman Trent Mierl led the Tigers at the National Invitational Tournament to open the spring campaign, recording the best score of his young career. The rookie carded a seven-under 209 in Arizona, finishing under par in all three rounds (70-70-69) to place 17th overall in the 14-team field.
A LEADER IN PAZ
Junior Virgilio Paz is enjoying a strong junior campaign. In 15 rounds during the 2024-25 season, Paz has recorded a stroke average of 72.27 – nearly an entire stroke lower than his previous best season. Overall, he has placed in the team’s top two in all five events he has competed in this season.
TIGERS IN THE PROS
Peter Malnati placed 49th at the WM Phoenix Open last week, finishing with a five-under tally during the weekend. Highlighting his tournament was a five-under 66 in the third round at TPC Scottsdale, his best score in his fifth tournament of the young season.
Other Tiger alums in action included Ross Steelman and Euan Walker. Steelman placed sixth at the Colombia Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour at -14 (67-61-73-68), while Walker finished 53rd at the Cell C Cape Town Open with a score of -1 (72-68-72-72). Walker was also coming off a 28th-place finish at the MyGolfLife Open in South Africa the previous week, carding a final tally of -16 (67-71-66-68).
