Cougars End Strong, Renner Finishes Second at The Prestige


LA QUINTA, Calif. (Feb. 19, 2025) – Washington State Men’s Golf shot a 2-under, 282, it’s best round of the tournament, while junior Sam Renner posted a third-straight round under par to finish tied for second overall following the third and final round at The Prestige Wednesday, played on the par-71, 7,127-yard Greg Norman Course at PGA West.
 
As a team, the Cougars finished the third round with a 15-stroke improvement over Tuesday, shooting 2-under, 282, to finish the 54-hole event at 23-over, 875, in 22nd place. San Diego shot a blistering 18-under Wednesday to capture the team title with a three-round score of 29-under, 16 strokes ahead of runner-up Texas Tech.
 
As he did all tournament, Renner led WSU with his second-straight round of 2-under, 69. Starting on the back side, Renner made the turn in 3-under and had it to 4-under through 16 before bogeys on the final two holes gave him a final 54-hole score of 8-under, 205, tied for second overall. Renner finished the event with 14 birdies against six bogeys as he claimed his third Top-5 finish of the season.
 
Freshman Dylan Burcham posted his first under-par round as he shot a 2-under, 69, matching Renner on the day. Burcham made the turn at even-par before firing four birdies on his back nine to finish the round at 2-under.
 
Redshirt-sophomore Ben Borgida had his best round of the tournament by firing an even-par, 71, Wednesday. Consistent throughout his round, Borgida posted two birdies and two bogeys over his 18 holes to finish the tournament at 12-over, 225, tied for 98th overall.
 
Redshirt-senior Drayton Joseph completed his round Wednesday with a 2-over, 73. Joseph managed four birdies against six bogeys as he ended his tournament at 9-over, 222, tied for 86th. Senior Franklin Lydra recorded three birdies en route to a 6-over, 77, finishing his tournament at 19-over 232, tied for 112th.
 
The Cougars area next in action at the Arizona Thunderbird Intercollegiate, March 17-18, in Tucson, Ariz.
