Scholarships And Awards Bestowed At UW Student-Athlete Graduation


SEATTLE – 134 graduating athletes were celebrated Thursday at the University of Washington student-athlete graduation ceremony, including 11 recipients of awards and scholarships.

Top Dawg Award – Dalayah Daniels and Nathan Green

The Top Dawg Award is awarded to outstanding male and female student-athletes who have demonstrated the highest caliber of athleticism, academic achievement, service, leadership, and moral character.

 

George Fleming Social Impact Award – Deiah Moody

The George Fleming Social Impact Award commemorates a UW football alum who passed in 2021. Senator George Fleming was a path-breaking Husky legend who left an even larger impact on the community off the field through his decades of public service, civic engagement, and efforts for equal access to education. The George Fleming Social Impact Award honors his legacy by recognizing a graduating student-athlete who used their time and platform as a Husky to serve and engage in the community to advance the advocacy and action work toward social justice.

 

Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity Scholar Athlete of the Year – Jami Schlueter

Each year, the Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity recognizes a graduating student-athlete who has showcased outstanding leadership, exemplary achievements, and academic success during their time at Washington.

 

Academic Excellence Award

Kennedy Knox (3.87 GPA, Bachelor of Science in Real Estate and minor in Business Administration)

Jack Olsen (3.91 GPA, Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood and Family Studies)

 

The Academic Excellence Award is given to the male and female student-athletes with the highest cumulative GPA of the graduating seniors.

 

Gertrude Peoples Scholarship – Sophie Houston and Connor Shoup

This scholarship was created in honor of Gertrude Peoples, who founded the Student-Athlete Academic Services program in 1970. One of the first of its kind in the country, the University of Washington program proudly celebrates its 55th year of helping student-athletes realize their potential as students and graduates at the University. 

 

Scott G. Greenwood Memorial Scholarship – Connor Shoup
