Women’s Golf Finishes Strong on Day One of Big 12 Championship

HOCKLEY, Texas – Sun Devil Women’s Golf finished day one of the Big 12 Championship in seventh place.

No. 8 Arizona State (+10/294) sits right in the middle of the 14-team field following the first 18 holes at The Clubs at Houston Oaks. Redshirt sophomore Patience Rhodes and junior Paula Schulz-Hanssen lead the way, both finding themselves in the Top-10. Junior Beth Coulter (T18) makes it three Sun Devils in the Top-20 of a 70-golfer field. The trio is a big reason why the Maroon and Gold are still in firm contention as the team leaderboard remains crowded. No. 19 Arizona and No. 29 Iowa State share the lead with a 285 (+1). ASU looks to carry the momentum they built at the end of the first round, as they went one-under as a team over their final four holes. Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye‘s team will have a chance to make up ground starting tomorrow at 6:50 AM MST.

Quotables
“Although we did have a difficult start to our tournament, I’m really proud of how the team fought back to get on track and played much better golf during the last 3-4 holes,” Coach Farr-Kaye reflected after the round. “This is a golf course that we’ve never seen before and we obviously need to learn a little bit more.”

“Coach Tatman and I are going to make some minor tweaks for the next round,” Coach Farr-Kaye mentioned. “We we are excited to come back and implement those adjustments. With the leaderboard still crowded, we have a great chance to make a move with a better round tomorrow.”
