SALT LAKE CITY – Utah men’s golf head coach Garrett Clegg has announced the hiring of Spencer Dunaway, who will serve as an assistant coach for the program. Dunaway joins the Utes after one season at Utah Tech as an assistant coach.

“I am thrilled to announce that Spencer has accepted the position of assistant men’s golf coach and will begin working here at the U this week,” Clegg said. “Spencer has an incredible passion for the game of golf and has shown in a short time that he knows what it takes to be a successful coach. I’m excited that he will be joining our program at the U and I’m confident he will be a huge part of helping each of our players improve and continue to push our program forward!”

In his first coaching stint with the Trail Blazers, Dunaway helped guide the men’s golf team to three top-10 team finishes, highlighted by a fifth place showing at the Southern Utah Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational to open the spring season at the Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George.

“I am so grateful to coach Clegg for this opportunity,” Dunaway said. “Not everyone gets an opportunity to be a Pac-12 assistant coach at 25 years old. He has built a national championship caliber program and I’m looking forward to helping him grow this program even more. I can’t wait to get to work and get after it. I know what this program is capable of and I am excited to be a part of it.”

Before making his way to Utah Tech, Dunaway saw a successful four-year collegiate playing career at BYU where he finished with a career 73.89 stroke average, nine top-20 finishes (Three top-five’s) and one tournament victory.
