Parrish Named Women’s Golf Assistant Coach

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Alumna Michelle Parrish is the new assistant coach for the University of Missouri women’s golf program, it was announced by head coach Caroline Westrup on Wednesday.

Parrish, formerly Michelle Butler, was a standout at Mizzou from 2011-16 and most recently served as the men’s and women’s golf head coach at Columbia College.

“We are thrilled to welcome Michelle back to the program as an assistant coach,” Westrup said. “She’s done an outstanding job running two programs at Columbia College and has developed great contacts within the local and state golf community. Being a former high-level player at Mizzou provides her a unique understanding of what it takes to be successful here and will be an advantage as we recruit championship-caliber players to our program.”

Parrish had served as the Cougars interim head coach since July 2021 and was elevated to the permanent job in March 2022. She led the women’s golf team to a 2022 American Midwest Conference (AMC) team championship and a top-30 finish at its first NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship while the men’s golf team tied for second at the AMC Championships, one stroke out of the top spot. Her time at Columbia College started prior to the 2017-18 season when she was named assistant coach for both programs.

“I am absolutely honored and thrilled to be the new assistant women’s golf coach at Mizzou,” Parrish said “I’m incredibly grateful to Caroline (Westrup) and the Mizzou Athletics staff for this opportunity. It’s a dream to be coaching at my alma mater and I cannot wait to help Caroline take this program to the next level.”

As a player for the Tigers, Parrish earned second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors after a record-breaking season in 2016 which saw her post a program-best 72.59 stroke average. She recorded four runner-up finishes her senior year, while leading the team to NCAA East Regional Championships.

She posted two of the top-10 best 54-hole tournament scores in program history, including a 207 (No. 4 all-time at Mizzou) at the 2015 Johnie Imes Invitational, and a 209 (No. 10 all-time at Mizzou) at the 2015 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. Her seven-under, par 65 at the 2015 Johnie Imes Invitational is tied for the best round in program history.

Still a standout amateur golfer, Parrish made it to the semifinals of the 32nd…
