The Gators’ current volunteer assistant coach earns his first selection to the Presidents Cup.
Horschel will make his debut after being selected by team captain Davis Love III, joining Kevin Kisner, Max Homa, Collin Morikawa, Cameron Young and Jordan Spieth who were all picked today. The group makes up the U.S. roster along with Sam Burns, Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas.
“Billy has been one of the top players on the PGA TOUR for a long time, and it’s honestly hard to believe this will be his first Presidents Cup,” said Love III. “He is a fiery competitor and someone you want by your side in team competition. I know he will embrace the week at Quail Hollow and will have some passionate U.S. Team fans rallying behind him.”
In his 12th season on the PGA TOUR, Horschel earned his seventh career title at the Memorial Tournament by four strokes after taking a five-stroke lead into the final round. The Gator Great also added two runner-up finishes at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where he partnered with fellow Presidents Cup teammate Sam Burns.
Horschel becomes the fourth Gator selected to the tournament joining former U.S. members Mark Calcavecchia (1998), Chris DiMarco (2003 & 2006) and Team International representative Camilo Villegas (2009).
The 14th edition of the Presidents Cup will be held at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. Play gets underway on Sept. 22nd at 1:05 p.m. For more information about the event click here.
