Mackova Wins the Yale Invitational Individual Title, Maryland Takes Second Place

NEW HAVEN, CT – Junior Patricie Mackova won the individual title at the Yale Invitational Sunday, and Maryland came in second place as a team at even par.

Mackova posted an overall score of 205 (70-68-67), which was eight strokes under par.  She beat her nearest competitor, Meiyi Yan of Harvard, by three strokes. This marks her first collegiate win. She led the field in par-4 scoring with a stroke average of 3.85 (-5) and birdies made with 15.

“It feels great to win the Yale Invite individual title,” said Patricie Mackova. “I had some good rounds in the past but never put together three good rounds until now. I struggled a bit today on holes 10-14, but I managed to come back. There were a lot of scoring opportunities on this course, so I took advantage of that. I still see some room for improvement, especially on the greens, but I’m looking forward to the next tournament.”

“I am so proud of Patricie and how she battled on the back nine to win her first college tournament,” said head coach Kelly Hovland.

From the Coaches’ Eye – Hovland’s Analysis…

“It was a great weekend of golf for us, especially for Patricie, but disappointed we came up a little short today,” said Hovland. “It was a tough start to the round, and we couldn’t get the momentum we needed to catch a really good Harvard team.”
