THIS WEEK

The University of Utah men’s golf team has 54 holes in the books so far in 2022-23 and they’re getting ready to dive into their second tournament of the fall. The Husky Invitational will take the Utes to Bremerton, Wash., where they’ll participate in another 54-hole event that will take place on Sept. 19-20 at the Gold Mountain Golf Course.

This will be the fifth straight year the Utes have competed in a tournament in the Evergreen State, which was the site of the 2022 Pac-12 Championships, where the team finished tied for 8th. The last time Utah participated in the Husky Invitational was in Sept. of 2016, when they placed 10th.

THE FIELD

Sharing the course with the Utes will be 14 other schools from around the country, including Pac-12 rivals USC, Washington State, Oregon State, Oregon and Washington. The rest of the field consists of Nevada, San Jose St., Colgate, Boise State, Seattle, Long Beach State, UC Davis, Duke and St. Mary’s.

UTAH’S LINE-UP

Eight golfers will be hitting the links for Utah on Monday and Tuesday, including a lineup that will consist of Javier Barcos, Brandon Robison, Hunter Howe, Jesper von Reedtz and Braxton Watts. Three more Utes, Tanner Telford, Davis Johnson and Martín León, will be competing as individuals.

COACHES THOUGHTS: Head Coach Garrett Clegg

“It will be a great opportunity for so many of our players to get starts this week. We’ll be playing in a first-class event and I’m excited to see how we can bounce back from Notre Dame. I’m looking forward to a great week of golf!”

LAST TIME OUT

The Utes started the new campaign in South Bend, Ind., the site of the Fighting Irish Classic. Barcos led the way for Clegg’s crew by tying for 21st, capped off by a final round 69 that included birdies on the final three holes. As a team, Utah landed in 13th.

TOURNAMENT DETAILS

The Husky Invitational will be a 54-hole event, beginning with 36 holes on Monday, followed by an 18-hole final round on Tuesday. Each round will begin with players teeing off from holes 1 and 10 and the first Ute will tee off on Monday at 8:10 a.m.
