KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee sophomore Bailey Davis put on a show Monday at Cherokee Country Club, tying the program record for lowest 18-hole score during the second round of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate after carding an impressive 63.
The White Plains, Maryland, native started the day strong, shooting even par on the first 18 holes and -1 on the back nine. During the second round, Davis notched five birdies to shoot -5 on the front nine and maintained her momentum with three more birdies to record a 3-under on the last nine holes. She posted a 9-under overall and enters the final day in second place and just one stroke behind the top spot.
“I was pretty happy with the way I played today,” Davis said. “I was happy with how committed I was, how I struck the ball, and how well I putted. I was trying to stay pretty calm throughout the day, but I think I did a pretty good job with it.”
Davis now shares the program record for lowest round with LVFL Mikayla Bardwell, who carded a 63 during the second day of the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Alabama, in April. The two lowest rounds in Lady Vol history have come under the direction of head coach Diana Cantú.
