NORMAN, Okla. – The Illinois women’s golf finished the Schooner Fall Classic with a 14th-place finish after carding a 54-hole total of 855 (+15) at Belmar Golf Club. The Illini were +5 (285) in today’s final round.

Isabel Sy recorded her best-ever finish, placing tied for fifth after carding a final round of 69 (-1). Sy collected three birdies in her final 18 holes, totaling 11 birdies in the tournament to post an overall score of -7 (203), which is the lowest 54-hole total of her career. The San Gabriel, Calif., native opened the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 67, matching the lowest total the junior has ever recorded. This is the first time in Sy’s career that she has scored under 70 in three-straight rounds.

“It was a strong tournament for Isabel from start to finish,” head coach Renee Sloan said. “She managed herself ad the challenging conditions yesterday very well. I’m very proud of how she applied what she gained from the Cougar Classic.”

Crystal Wang also finished tied for fifth after a final round 68 (-2). Wang has now finished in the Top 15 in five-straight events and has also placed in the Top 10 three times during that span. Her 54-hole total of 203 also matches the lowest 54-hole total of her career, which she set in the ICON Invitational last season.

Mattie Frick and Lexanne Halama both ended their tournament with final rounds of 74 (+4) and placed tied for 77th and tied for 80th respectively. Halama posted a combined score of five-under on the Par 5s at Belmar, tied for the lowest such total among the field.

Alise Knudson shot a final round 75 (+5) and finished 83rd.

Florida State took home the tournament title with a 54-hole score of 828 (-12), with TCU (831), Oklahoma State (833) and Houston (834) rounding out the top four. TCU’s Caitlyn Macnab captured the individual title with a 10-under 200.

Illinois next heads to Medinah, Ill., as they host the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah Country Club, played on Course No. 2, on Oct. 10-11.
