KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Wake Forest Women’s golf team had the lowest second-round score in the field on day one of the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate to put them just six strokes off the lead heading into Tuesday’s final round.
With the help from senior Rachel Kuehn and sophomore Carolina Chacarra, the Deacs were able to go from two over in sixth place at the end of the first round to nine under in third place at the end of the second.
Kuehn recorded the second-lowest 18-hole score of her collegiate career in the second round, posting a seven-under score of 64 with zero bogeys. Chacarra was right on her heels with a four-under score of 67 in the second round. Both players are currently tied for fourth place on the individual leaderboard.
Senior Lauren Walsh improved her score in the second half of the day. After going three over in the first round she fired off four birdies, three on her final nine holes of the day, to shoot two-under for the round. She is one over par and tied for 21st heading into the final round.
In her collegiate debut, competing as an individual, Anne-Sterre den Dunnen is right next to Walsh on the board, also coming in at tied for 21st on the board after going one over in her first 18 holes and shooting even par in the afternoon round.
Final Round
Tuesday’s final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. ET. Wake Forest will be paired with Virginia and UCF and live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
