Cougs Move Up to Fifth in the Second Round of the GOLFWEEK Red Sky Classic


WOLCOTT, Colo. – The Washington State women’s golf team moved up three spots on the team leaderboard in the second round of the 2022 GOLFWEEK Red Sky Classic Tuesday, Sept. 27, as the Cougars shot 7-over 295 to end the day in fifth place on the team leaderboard.

WSU heads into Wednesday’s final round at 9-over 585, just four strokes shy of third place. The Cougs have posted the second-best par-4 team score in the tournament, as Wazzu is shooting 10-over on par-4 holes. Washington State heads into the third round with 111 total pars, which is the third-most in the field.

Fifth year senior Darcy Habgood shot even par 72 in the second round to end her day in third place. Habgood enters the third round at 4-under 140, just two strokes shy of first place. The Australian native is currently shooting 3-under on par-4 holes, which is the third-best par-4 score by an individual in the tournament.

Redshirt sophomore Jinyu Wu moved up 19 spots on the player leaderboard during Tuesday’s second round. The Shanghai, China native carded 2-over 74 on the day, highlighted by three-consecutive birdies on holes 13-15. Fellow sophomore Sarah Skovgaard-Bils is tied with Wu on the player leaderboard, as each WSU golfer has shot 5-over 149 over 36 holes of play. Skovgaard-Bils carded 3-over 75 during her second go-around the Fazio Course at the Red Sky Golf Club to move up eight spots on the player leaderboard during the round.

Pepperdine heads into Wednesday’s finale holding a nine-stroke lead over Colorado. The Waves have shot 12-under 564 over two rounds of play. Pepperdine’s Lauren Gomez holds a one-stroke lead over her teammate Lion Higo for first place on the player leaderboard, as Gomez heads into the third round at 6-under 138.

The final round of the 2022 GOLFWEEK Red Sky Classic gets underway Wednesday, Sept. 28. The round will feature a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. PT. Fans can follow all the action at GolfStat.com.
