Men’s Golf Finishes T-14th at Marquette Intercollegiate, Looks Ahead for a Strong Finish to the Fall


Rutgers men’s golf concluded play at the Marquette Intercollegiate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Monday, finishing the tournament in a tie for 14th place out of 15 teams.
 
The Scarlet Knights finished with a final score of 883 (+43), but produced lower totals as play went on, highlighted by a score of 292 (+12) in the third round. They shot 297 and 294 in the first and second rounds, respectively.
 
Senior captain Xavier Marcoux continued his strong fall, producing the lowest total individually for the Scarlet Knights. Coming off a 1st place finish at the Old Town Club Collegiate at Wake Forest University a week earlier, the Massachusetts native finished in a tie for 46th place with his performance of 220 (+10).
 
Junior Rhett Sellers was right there with Marcoux throughout play, as he also finished tied for 46th place. He started off the tournament with a score of 74 (+4) in the first round, and finished strong with a 73 (+3) in each of the final two rounds. 
 
Sophomore Weston Jones, freshman James Newton, and senior captain Luke Well also put in solid efforts for Rutgers. Jones and Newton both finished in a five-way tie for 58th place, posting scores of 222 (75-76-71) and 222 (75-73-74), respectively. Wells also contributed a total of 224 (75-75-74).
 
The strong field was highlighted by the tournament winner, Auburn University, and host Marquette University. The Tigers finished with a score of 845 (283-288-274), while the Golden Eagles tallied an 851 (283-286-282). 
 
The Scarlet Knights look to end their fall season with a strong showing at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Michigan State in Vero Beach, Florida, on October 16 and 17.
