Women’s Golf Heads to Ohio for Rocket Classic


PORT CLINTON, Ohio  – Rutgers women’s golf continues its fall slate this week at the Rocket Classic, taking place at Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio. The two-day. 54-hole event is hosted by Toledo and will take place on Monday, Oct. 10 (36 holes) and Tuesday, Oct. 11 (18 holes).

  • Sunday 10/9: Practice Round – 11 a.m. 
  • Monday 10/10: Rounds 1 & 2  9 a.m. shotgun start
  • Tuesday 10/11: Round 3 (Final Round) – 9 a.m. shotgun start

Rutgers Lineup 

The Scarlet Knights are at the Rocket Classic for the first time, and will play their first 36-hole day of the season, with the first two rounds of play taking place on Monday before play wraps up on Tuesday. Rutgers is coming off a bye week and recently hosted a successful Unger-DeBlasio Cup that saw a record number of participants celebrating 45 years of Rutgers Women’s Golf and 50 years of Title IX.

In its last event, Rutgers tied for 13th in a 20-team field at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Colorado.

 

Lineup Notes
Leigha Devine has led the Scarlet Knights in the first two events of the season. She was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week on Wednesday after tying for first at the Badger Invitational. Devine set a tournament record with a 54-hole score of 209, breaking the previous record by four strokes. It was her first-ever first-place finish for Rutgers.
 
Nicole Ewing was one stroke off a career-best round with a 74 in the final round of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic. Ewing boasts a pair of top-10 finishes in her career and has played in 13 tournaments as a Scarlet Knight.
 
Rikke Nordvik tied with Devine to lead RU individually in the Red Sky Classic. Nordvik has now eclipsed the 20-tournament mark with 21 career tournaments under her belt. In the Spring, she led Rutgers with a t-17 finish at Big Ten Championships. 
 
Lucrezia Rossettin competed in 11 tournaments as a true freshman in 2021-22, picking up a t-13 finish at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic in fall where she also recorded a career-best 3-under 69.
