Zhang’s 13-under 200 was tied for the fifth-best 54-hole score in program history. Sunday marked her second straight victory at the Stanford Intercollegiate, becoming the first individual to win it back-to-back seasons since UCLA’s Brionte Law won the tournament three straight years (2014-16). Zhang’s six victories is now tied with Kathleen McCarthy (1983-97) for fourth-most in program history. This weekend marked her 13th career start.
The Cardinal has now had the individual winner in three straight Stanford Intercollegiates, as Angelina Ye won the event in 2019 and it was canceled due to Covid-19, in 2020. In total, a Cardinal has won the event five times in its history. The team win was also Stanford’s fifth all-time (second straight), matching UCLA for the most in tournament history.
En route to the victory, Zhang tallied rounds of 66-65-69, and has now played 20 of her 40 career rounds in the 60s. Zhang led the field in Par 4 scoring (-7), was third in Par 3 scoring (-2) and was also 4-under on the Par 5s.
Senior Brooke Seay had her best round of the weekend, totaling four birdies against just one bogey to finish with a 3-under 68, her best round of the season to date. In addition, Rachel Heck, a day after her 21st birthday, finished with a 1-under 70, as did junior Rebecca Becht, playing as an individual.
The Cardinal is set to conclude its fall season at the Pac-12 Preview, which starts Monday, Oct. 31.
