Chan leads Badgers at Cougar Classic


CHARLESTON, S.C. – Wisconsin Women’s Golf kicked off their season with a 10th place finish in the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall in Charleston, South Carolina. The team shot an 861 (+9) with a round-low of 279 (-5). 

Chloe Chan led the Badgers, finishing T24 with a 212 (-1). Chan shot a career-best 65 (-6) in the second round of the tournament, beating her previous career best of 69. 

Tuesday, Sept. 13

Third Round

The Badgers carded a 287 (+3) in the third and final round of the Cougar Classic, positioning them two places higher in the rankings. 

Alexia Siehl and Gia Feliciano led the Badgers in round three, both shooting a 69 (-2). Siehl ended up tied for 26th, making for a successful first collegiate tournament. Feliciano, who ended the tournament T72, tallied six birdies in the third round, improving her score by seven strokes. Tournament leader for the Badgers, Chloe Chan, shot a 74 (+3). 

Wisconsin’s Emily Lauterbach carded a 75 (+4), finishing the tournament T59 and eight-over-par, followed by Vanessa Ho at T72 who shot a +6 in the third round, ending 10-over-par. 

Monday, Sept. 12

First Round

The Badgers recorded a 295 (+11) to start off the day, placing them at 16th overall. Freshman and South Carolina native, Alexia Siehl, proved herself to be a natural on the course, shooting a 71 (E) and tallying two birdies in her first collegiate round. Not far behind was sophomore Chloe Chan with a 73 (+2) and one birdie. Emily Lauterbach (75 (+4)), Vanessa Ho (76 (+5)) and Gia Feliciano (78 (+7)) rounded out the Badgers’ lineup. 

Second Round

Determined for a successful afternoon round, Wisconsin carded a 279 (-5), moving their ranking up four spots to 12th. Chloe Chan led the Badgers with an impressive 65 (-6) and seven birdies, placing her in the top 10 golfers (T-9) at the end of the round. Vanessa Ho also found herself under par, shooting a 70 (-1) with three birdies. Emily Lauterbach (71 (E)), Alexia Siehl (73 (+2)) and Gia Feliciano (76 (+5)) additionally contributed to the Badgers improving 16 strokes from the previous round.

After the two rounds, Wisconsin has tallied a total score of 574 (+6).
