Sload Continues Top-10 Push in Mexico


Cabo San Lucas, Mexico – One day after recording her first under-par round of the season, graduate Sky Sload of the Missouri women’s golf team was one shot better during the second day of the Battle of the Beach in Mexico.

Sload fired a two-under 69 on Saturday – the best score by a Tiger this season. After recording her only bogey of the day on 18, the graduate student would finish with three birdies  on two, four and nine to move to three under through 36 holes. With one day left to play, Sload is tied for sixth among the 90-player field.

Junior Emily Staples added her second-straight solid round of the tournament with a 72 as she enters the final day ranked 17th with a one-over 143. Senior Sophia Yoemans and freshman Melanie Walker both carded a 76 during the second round, while Oliva Sowers added a 78 to round out the day for MU.

In a field that features 10 top-50 schools in the country, Mizzou is in 15th place as a team through 36 holes. The Tigers shot a 293 during the second round – bettering their score by 10 strokes from the opening day.

The final round of the Battle of the Beach is set for Sunday morning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT.
