PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers men’s golf program is proud to welcome Andrew Reyes and Derek Gutierrez to the 2023-24 signing class.
Reyes is a golfer from San Antonio, Texas who is ranked 137 in the class of 2023 (Junior Golf Scoreboard) and the No. 10 ranked player in Georgia for the class of 2023 (Junior Golf Scoreboard) where he lived during his recruitment. Reyes is a Rutgers legacy as both of his parents (Freddy and Regina) were Scarlet Knights. He is a two-time individual winner of 2022 APGA Cisco Junior Series events held in San Antonio, Houston.
He has had multiple impressive finishes in events throughout his high school career. He finished in third place in the 2022 Mack Champ Invitational and third place in the 2022 Aggie Land Championship.
“It’s my childhood dream come true to commit to Rutgers,” Reyes said “I’ve moved around a lot and I can’t wait to be back on the banks and be a Scarlet Knight!”
“Andrew is a Rutgers legacy, and we are proud that both of his parents went here,” head coach Rob Shutte said. “We are super excited to get him here and to have him at his dream school. He has huge upside with his golf talent and has tremendous a putting and short game. We expect big things from him in the future here at Rutgers. “
Gutierrez is from Cranford, New Jersey and is ranked 163 in the class of 2023 (Junior Golf Scoreboard). He is the No. 1 player in New Jersey for the class of 2023. He had three AJGA top-10 finishes in 2022.
He had a first-place at the 2022 NJPGA Junior Masters, a fifth-place in the 2022 MGA Carter Cup and a semi-Finalist in the 2022 MGA Met Junior Championship. Derek is a son to Alfredo and Tammy Gutierrez.
“I’m very grateful to have signed with Rutgers,” Gutierrez said. “I love everything about the program and it’s the best place for me to become a better player and person.”
“Derek is the No. 1 player in the state of New Jersey and we are proud to keep him in his home state,” Shutte said. “Being from New Jersey we have had a chance to know him for a while. You want to try and keep home a player who can help you win Big Ten Championships from this state. He’s a hard-working kid, who’s overcome a lot and fits our culture and model.”
