Investec South African Open Championship 2022:…

This week the DP World Tour is staying put for the Investec South African Open Championship.

The second of three consecutive events in the country, it is one of the oldest golf competitions still in existence, having first been played in 1903.

It is one of the principal events on the Sunshine Tour, and since 1997 has been co-sanctioned by the European circuit.

Last year’s edition was sole-sanctioned by the South African-based tour because of Covid-19 restrictions, but with the easing of rules the DP World Tour has returned this year.

The SA Open has been a happy hunting ground for the home country, with five of the last seven editions won by South Africans. Daniel van Tonder is the defending champion, having pipped compatriot Oliver Bekker by a single shot in 2021.
