Rick Shiels, golf biggest YouTube personality with nearly 3 million subscribers across his three channels, has had his say some on some of the latest drivers to launch in 2023 and he his hasn’t held back with his opinions. Shiels, who is based in the Manchester area of the UK, has produced video reviews of both the TaylorMade Stealth 2 and Callaway Paradym driver ranges and one clearly resonated with him slightly more than the other.
His latest video to drop was on the Stealth 2 drivers, which replaced the carbon-faced Stealth models from last year and while Shiels lauded it as one of the best looking clubs he’s seen, he didn’t appear to be enamoured with the performance.
“I don’t think they [TaylorMade] have got it right yet – certainly for golfers who don’t hit the middle of the face,” Shiels said in his YouTube review (opens in new tab) of the Stealth 2 drivers.
“For the best players in the world these are fantastic drivers. I think they look great, I think the sound is fantastic. But I still don’t think they are as forgiving as they need to and could be.”

The Stealth 2 Plus was more difficult to keep on a leash, but well-struck shots flew noticeably long – up there as one of the best drivers for distance in 2023. We also loved the look of the Stealth 2 range and clearly Rick agreed.
“I honestly believe this is one of the nicest looking drivers I have ever seen,” Shiels said. “Personally, I love red I love black, I love the white and the silver detailing. There is one thing I’d change and that is this year the carbon crown is gloss. I’m not the biggest fan of that, I feel like it shines up too much but it’s not a big thing.”
But for Shiels, it appears TaylorMade have not quite fixed the consistency problems he found on the 2022 offering, but did concur with our testers that this club offers superb distance if you strike the ball in the centre of the club.
After testing the Stealth 2 on the course, Shiels said: “Now the only way I can best describe the ball flights is, unpredictable. Every shot just seemed a bit different. Whether it was ones that leaped off to the right or they went low-left.”
“Now I like to think I’m a pretty good driver of the golf ball and a lot of the…
