USC Men's Golf Opens Spring Season At Southwestern Invitatational

The USC men’s golf team, with a pair of medalist honors to its credit in the fall, returns to action and kickstarts the 2023 spring season at   Southwestern Invitational, Monday through Wednesday (Jan. 30-Feb. 1), at the North Ranch C.C. in Westlake Village, Calif.

The Trojans, in their third year under Head Coach J.T. Higgins and assistant coach Matt Walton, opened the 2022-23 season with a second at the Husky Invitational while sophomore Jackson Rivera took first, complemented by senior Jack Boulger’s win at the adjacent Husky Individual Invitational.

Southwestern Invitational Information

The annual 12-team tournament hosted by Pepperdine, in its 43rd edition, will use parts of both the Lakes and Oaks courses at North Ranch, combining for a par 72, 7,017-yard venue.

USC’s starting lineup will feature senior Jack Boulger, juniors Krando Nishiba and Shane Ffrench (in his debut this season), sophomore Jackson Rivera and freshman Mahanth Chirravuri. Sophomore Gavin Aurilia will be playing as an individual.

The 2023 field includes host Pepperdine, USC, Arizona State, Georgia, Oregon, San Diego State, San Jose State, Texas, UCLA, UNLV, Wake Forest and Washington.

Golf Channel will air live coverage each day beginning at 1:30 p.m. PT. Tee times off of 1 begin at 8 a.m. each day. Results will available at Golfstat.com.

The Trojans formerly hosted the event as both the USC Collegiate Invitational and the North Ranch Intercollegiate. They have won the tournament seven times (second most in event history), most recently a one-stroke victory in 2019 over California at 4-under 860 (284-285-291). Former All-American Justin Suh won the individual crown at 12-under 204 (68-68-68) — tied for the most under par in tournament history — that year and clinched the team win with a birdie on the final hole. Prior to that, USC last won the event in 2016 at 26-under 838, setting the tournament record for most under par.   Andrew Levitt was the individual winner (with an 8-under 208) in 2016, one of six Trojans with Suh who have won the tournament title. Other winners include Yi Keun Chang (2013), Tim Sluiter (2008), Rory Hie (2007) and Sam Randolph (1984).

USC finished ninth most recently in 2022. In 2020, Troy tied for second and Leon D’Souza tied for second at 11-under, tied for the third…
