Tamburlini Leads the Charge for Women’s Golf at Nexus Invite

NASSAU, Bahamas – High winds were awaiting the Ole Miss women’s golf team for Monday’s opening round of the Nexus Collegiate Invitational, as the Rebels battled their way to scoring a 312 (+24) on the first day from the Bahamas to sit ninth overall.

The Rebels ended their day having made a combined 10 birdies and 45 pars to close out the first round, with winds reaching just shy of 20 mph throughout the day. Ole Miss will look to navigate a crowded midfield on Tuesday to move up the leaderboard, with only 10 strokes currently separating the Rebels from third place.

Senior Chiara Tamburlini led the charge for the Rebels, sinking four birdies enroute to a opening round scorecard of 71 (-1) that will see the St. Gallen, Switzerland, native tied for first at the start of Tuesday’s second round. Tamburlini’s four birdies currently ranks second amongst the field, as she has now logged her fifth round under par of the 2022-23 season.

Fellow senior Andrea Lignell will also be entering day two of competition residing in the top 20, with Lignell’s round of 75 (+3) currently putting her into a tie for 14th. Despite a slow start to her day, going four-over in her front nine, the Gothenburg, Sweden, native hunkered down to shoot one-under over her final nine holes to rocket back up the individual leaderboard.

Lignell currently ranks first amongst all golfers in attendance in par-4 scoring (-1), while also being tied for second overall with Tamburlini at four total birdies on the week.

The Rebel lineup was then rounded out by a trio of rounds in the 80s, as Natacha Host Husted’s 82 (+10), Elle Johnson’s 84 (+12) and Ellen Hume’s 85 (+13) capped off the team’s opening round of action from Albany Golf Club.

Competing as an individual, McKinley Cunningham closed out her opening day by carding an 83 (+13) of her own to sit tied for 55th overall.

Ole Miss will be right back in action tomorrow for round two from Albany Golf Club. Tee times for the Rebels are currently set for 6:45 a.m. CT. off of Hole 10.
