SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The No. 7 Tennessee men’s golf team finished tied for seventh at the Puerto Rico Classic Tuesday at Grand Reserve Golf Club.
The Vols shot a three-round total of 16-under, including its best team round of 7-under on Tuesday.
Freshman Evan Woosley-Reed, competing as a member of Tennessee’s lineup for the second time in his career, tied for eighth place overall in the tournament, shooting a three-round total of 9-under. Woosley-Reed closed out the tournament with a 6-under round on Tuesday that featured six birdies and an eagle. His final round was Tennessee’s best counting round on day three.
With Tuesday’s finish, Woosley-Reed was the Vols’ highest finisher for the first time in his young Tennessee career.
Also capturing a top-10 finish competing as an individual was Laurent Desmarchais—who shot 7-under overall, including a round-three score of 1-under, on his way to a tied-for-10th-place finish. With his three under-par rounds during the tournament, Desmarchais has recorded 15 rounds of par or better in his collegiate career.
With a three-day total of 6-under, Bryce Lewis tallied a top-15 finish. The redshirt junior shot par or better in each of his three rounds to log his 60th career round of par or better. Additionally, Lewis provided a counting round for the lineup each day.
Freshman Caleb Surratt narrowly missed out on a top-25 finish, tying for 28th place and shooting 3-under for the tournament. Surratt contributed counting rounds each day.
Competing individually, Jake Hall finished tied for 42nd place after tallying a total score of 1-over. The Knoxville native notched two under par rounds and a final round of 3-over.
Competing in his first collegiate tournament, freshman Josh Hill logged a three-round total of 5-over and shot a final round of even par. The true freshman finished the Puerto Rico Classic tied for 60th place.
Lance Simpson bounced back from over-par rounds on Sunday and Monday to shoot a round three 1-under 71—giving Tennessee its second-best counting round on Tuesday. The redshirt freshman registered a 6-over finish for the event and tied for 63rd place.
Cade Russell was the final individual for Tennessee and shot 9-over during three rounds to place 68nd in the field.
