Freshman Mahanth Chirravuri continued his strong play and posted his fourth top 20 this season while senior Jack Boulger and sophomore Jackson Rivera also closed strong as the USC men’s golf team finished ninth following a 27-hole final day of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at the Ocean Course Hokuala in Lihu’e, Kaua’i on Friday (Feb. 17).
The three-day event was truncated into a pair of 27-hole days due to expected weather issues Saturday and that suited USC fine as the Trojans combined for a 17-under 847 (294-274-279), taking ninth.
USC finished the second half of the second round this morning and posted a season-best 14-under 274 and maintained the strong pace with a final round at 9-under 279.
Chirravuri finished as USC’s low scorer for the fourth time this season, tying for 19th at 8-under 208 (73-66-69). Two morning birdies helped him establish a season-best 6-under 66 second round and he wasted no time in the third round, going out at 3-under and coming home at par.
Chirravuri doubled his rounds in the 60s this year to four.
Rivera tied for 34th at 4-under 212 (74-68-70) while Boulger tied for 45th at 2-under 214 (73-69-72). For Rivera, his second-round 4-under was his best since his 67 that opened the season. Boulger’s second round gave him a team-best five rounds in the 60s.
Sophomore Gavin Aurilia tied for 67th at par 216 (77-71-68), his final round today matching his season-best from the season-opening tournament.
Junior Krando Nishiba (74-78-74) tied for 11th at 10-over 226 while senior Parker Sisk (74-76-77), playing individually, tied for 117th at 11-over 227 (74-76-77).
