Bondesson Leads Men’s Golf Day One at Colleton River

Freshman Alfons Bondesson opened up the spring season for Missouri men’s golf in style, anchoring the Tigers during the first two rounds of the Colleton River Classic in South Carolina.

Behind an opening round of eight-under 64, Bondesson is second in the 74-player field after the first two rounds. The rookie fired a 10-under 134 overall and is just one shot off the lead with 18 holes to play. Bondesson came out firing with his opening-round 64 tied for the ninth-best score by a Tiger in school history and the second-best mark ever by a Mizzou true freshman. Overall, Bondesson recorded 13 birdies on the day, including nine in the first 18 holes of action, to lead the Tigers.

Senior Charlie Crockett isn’t far behind his teammate as he sits in seventh place with a seven-under 137. Crocket carded a first-round 69 before finishing with a 68 in the second 18 holes of action, aided by an eagle three on his final hole of the day.

DJ Springer (72-70), Jack Lundin (74-70) and Dawson Meek (76-72) rounded out the day for the Tigers, who sit in eighth place in a competitive team field that includes four schools ranked in the top 30 nationally among multiple ranked teams. Mizzou’s team score of 557 (-19) currently sits in front of No. 28 Ohio State (561) and No. 25 Cincinnati (564), among other schools.

Dagbjartur Sigurbrandsson is also competing as an individual in South Carolina, finishing with a one-over 145 (70-75) during the day.

Round three is set for Tuesday morning with the first Tiger teeing off at 7 a.m. CT.
