Hanson, Azallion guide Hokies at Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate


AIKEN, S.C. — Behind a pair of its golfers finishing in the top 20, the Virginia Tech men’s golf team placed fifth at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by USC Aiken at the par 70, 6,617-yard Palmetto Golf Club.
 
Charlie Hanson and Daniel Azallion tied for ninth and 15th, respectively. It is Hanson’s first top 20 of the season, while Azallion notches his third of the season. Hanson logged a 1-over 211. Azallion was two strokes behind at 3-over 213.
 
The Hokies posted the third-best final round score to slide up two spots on the leaderboard at event’s end. Tech recorded a 15-over 855 (283-284-288) to finish two shots behind Davidson, which took fourth.
 
South Carolina ran away with the team title, tallying a 2-under 838 (281-272-285). Furman was the runner-up at 8-over 848 (286-277-285).
 
Behind Cameron Moore’s two eagles, Tech tied Davidson for the most eagles in the field with three. Kobe Valociek delivered the other eagle. The Hokies ranked third in the field in both par-3 and par-4 scoring. Hanson finished 2-under on his par-3s this week.
 
Mercer’s Tobias Jonsson claimed medalist honors at 6-under 204 (69-65-70). A trio of golfers tied for second at 4-under 206.
 
UP NEXT
The Hokies return to South Carolina for the The Hootie at Bulls Bay, March 26-28. The 54-hole event will be contested at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C.
