East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s men’s golf team completed its first day of play at the Johnnie-O at Sea Island, being played at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga.
The Spartans shot a 25-over par 585 (294-291) on the par-70, 7,005-yard course.
Ohio State leads the field at 1-under par 559, with Kansas State in second place at 1-over par 561. Notre Dame is in third place (2-over par 5623) while Cincinnati and Kansas are tied for fourth place at 4-over par 564.
Senior Bradley Smithson leads the Spartans, standing in a tie for 24th place at 3-over par 143 (72-71).
Senior Drew Hackett is tied for 28th place after carding back-to-back rounds of 2-over par 72 to finish at 4-over par 144.
Sophomore Ashton McCulloch is tied for 35th place at 8-over par 148 (76-72), while junior August Meekhof is tied for 48th place at 10-over par 150 (74-76) and fifth year Troy Taylor II shot a 16-over par 156 (76-80) and is in 75th place.
The Spartans tee off on Tuesday at 8:45 a.m., playing alongside Memphis and Minnesota.
