Linner Goes 2-0 for Women’s Golf on Day One of Cactus Cup

PHOENIX – Sun Devil Women’s Golf completed two matches on day one of the Cactus Cup at Papago Golf Club.

KICKING OFF THE CACTUS CUP

Arizona State is hosting the first edition of the Cactus Cup, a Match Play event hosted at Papago Golf Club. No. 11 Sun Devil Women’s Golf welcomed No. 4 South Carolina, No. 6 San Jose State, and No. 8 Texas for the first of two days, which featured a match in the morning and afternoon sessions. Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye‘s team held their own against two of the Top-6 teams in the nation, going 5-6-1 in 12 individual matches against San Jose State and South Carolina. Heading into the final day of the Cactus Cup, Arizona State has collected 5.5 points, good for second in the team standings. They match up with first-place Texas starting tomorrow morning at 7:57 AM MST.

“Very proud of my team today,” Coach Farr-Kaye remarked. “They fought super hard and came back in several matches. The matches were extremely close and we battled for every point. A tie against San Jose State, who is a great team, was a strong start this morning.”

“This afternoon, we nearly tied South Carolina if it wasn’t for a 30-foot birdie putt at the end,” Coach Farr-Kaye added. “It was super competitive the entire way with them as well. To come away with these type of results, against two Top-10 schools, is a successful day.”

“We are excited to get to play tomorrow against Texas, who won their first two matches here. Michelle and I made some adjustments in the order of the lineup and we are excited to see how the team responds.”
