STARKVILLE – After leading the way for State throughout the PING/ASU Invitational, Lopez Ramirez was tabbed SEC Women’s Golfer of the Week for the fifth time in the Maroon and White.
Lopez Ramirez was one of three SEC women’s golfers to receive this week’s award, joining LSU’s Ingrid Lindblad and Auburn’s Elina Sinz. Lopez Ramirez continues to shine within her encore performance after winning SEC Freshman of the Year last year. Lopez Ramirez has now passed Bulldog great Ally McDonald Ewing (4) for the most SEC Golfer of the Week honors (5). Lopez Ramirez was also named SEC Freshman Golfer of the Week twice last season to tally seven SEC weekly honors in her young Bulldog career.
Lopez Ramirez carded yet another round in the 60s to open up the last regular season event. Lopez Ramirez sunk seven birdies in the first round (the most within the field) to secure her 22nd career round in the 60s (5-Under, 67). 5-Under Par (67) is tied for the sixth lowest opening round individually in Mississippi State history. With her latest round in the 60s, Lopez Ramirez is now only three rounds in the 60s behind all-time Bulldog great Ally McDonald Ewing for the most in program history.
In the second round, Lopez Ramirez sunk three birdies in the second round to work around a bogey on the fourth hole to secure her 36th career par or better round, carding 2-Under Par (70).
In the final round, Lopez Ramirez secured her 37th round of par or better golf in her young Bulldog career to finish third overall individually. Lopez Ramirez has six top-five finishes in nine events played this spring and 13 overall in 21 career events.
The Bulldogs will return to the course on April 12-16th for the SEC Championship from Birmingham, Ala. Future updates regarding the SEC Championship will be released at a later time.
