WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue men’s golfer Herman Sekne has been named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week for the second time this season after leading Purdue to a fourth-place showing at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in South Carolina.
Sekne previously won the Big Ten Golfer of the Week accolade this season on Oct. 12, after a runner-up showing at the Purdue Fall Invitational.
Sekne has now won six Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors in his career, the fifth most in Big Ten history (Jorge Campillo – 9; Jeff Overton – 9; Thomas Detry – 8; Charlie Danielson – 7; Herman Sekne – 6; Luke Guthrie – 6). The junior from Oslo, Norway, has played in 25 career events, winning weekly honors in almost 25 percent of the events he has played in.
Sekne finished third at the Hootie at Bulls Bay after shooting a 15-under par 201 (69-65-67). The 201 tied for the second-lowest tournament score in school history, while becoming just the third player in Purdue history to have all three rounds in the 60s. The score in relation to par (-15) tied the school record. Sekne now has four career tournament scores of 205 or lower, the most in school history (Cole Bradley is next with three).
The All-American candidate leads Purdue with a 70.11 stroke average while boasting five top-10 finishes in six events. He already has nine rounds in the 60s, good for third on the single-season list and his four consecutive rounds in the 60s mark the first time that has happened in Purdue history.
For his career, he owns the school record in stroke average (71.78; second place is 72.82) and he has 11 career top-10 finishes in just 23 events. He has 20 rounds in the 60s, just four off the school record set by Austin Eoff (2014-17).
Sekne and his teammates will travel to Florida this weekend for the prestigious Calusa Cup at Calusa Pines Golf Club. Action will run Sunday through Tuesday.
