ROSEMONT, Ill. – Fighting Illini sophomore Jackson Buchanan has been named Big Ten Golfer of the Week following his record-setting performance at the Tiger Collegiate Invitational Monday and Tuesday at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo. Buchanan earned the first win of his collegiate career, and helped the Illini capture the team’s fifth title of the 2022-23 season. The Big Ten Conference announced the honor Wednesday afternoon.
- Recorded a 194 (-22), breaking the Illinois program record by three strokes, to capture medalist honors and lead the Illini to a 28-stroke victory at the Tiger Collegiate Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
- Carded rounds of 66, 62, and 66 to finish more than seven strokes below the course average of 71.76 for the week
- Recorded 49 of 54 holes at or below par, including a tournament-leading 23 birdies, a pair of eagles and 24 consecutive bogey-free holes, en route to his first collegiate victory
- His 62 (-10) in Round 2 also established a new program-record score for a single round and helped the Illini set team records for a single round (27-under 261) and 54-hole tournament score (68-under 796)
It marks the second Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor of Buchanan’s career. He was also selected as the Big Ten Co-Golfer of the Week on Oct. 5. The Illini have won the weekly honor seven times this season.
