Pack in Eighth Place After Two Rounds of 2023 ACC Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. — NC State women’s golf will head into the third and final round of 2023 ACC Championship stroke play in eighth place after completing 36 holes of action on Thursday afternoon.

After a 298 (+10) first round that put the team in ninth place after the first round, the Wolfpack moved up a spot after a 296 (+8) second round that saw three of its players get a par or better on 14+ holes played.

Caitlin Whitehead highlighted the Pack’s day with the only under-par round by any member of the squad. In her ACC Championship debut, she shot a 70 (-2) in the opening round after getting off to a fast start with hole-outs on one and two that resulted in a birdie and an eagle, respectively, to start her day. The sophomore had four birdies and an eagle in the first round alone before going on to shoot 77 (+5) in the second round.

NC State rookie Vania Simont also made her first appearance at the event. She secured her first collegiate eagle on the par-five No. 15 in the opening round and posted scores of 77 (+5) and 73 (+2) on the day.

Lauren Olivares Leon went bogey-free for the first 11 holes of her second round on her way to shooting 74 (+2) in the afternoon. That number matched her first-round mark.

Natalie Armbruester and Isabel Amezcua both improved their scores between rounds. Armbruester shot a 77 (+5) in the first session before lowering her second-round score to 74 (+2), and Amezcua dropped her 18-hole mark from 79 (+7) in the first round to 75 (+3) in the second round.
