East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team has one individual among the top-10 and four among the top-20 overall and the Spartans are in second place heading into the final round of the Lady Buckeye Invitational, being played at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament finishes on Sunday, April 16 on the par-72, 6,319-yard course on the Ohio State campus with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Each of the 14 teams has six players competing and the lowest four scores count toward the team total.
The Spartans fired a 9-under par 279 in the first round and followed with a 2-under par 286 in Saturday afternoon’s second round.
Ohio State leads the 14-team field at 18-under par 558 with MSU in second place at 11-under par 565.
Penn State is in third place (9-under par 567), while Maryland is in fourth place (4-under par 572) and Minnesota and Michigan are tied for fifth place (1-over par 577).
Sophomore Brooke Biermann leads Michigan State, tying for eighth place at 3-under par 141 through two rounds. Biermann fired a 5-under par 67 in the opening round before closing the day out with a 2-over par 74.
Junior Valentina Rossi is tied for 12th place at 2-under par 142. Rossi posted back-to-back rounds of 1-under par 71.
Sophomore Katie Lu is tied for 15th place at 1-under par 143 and freshman Paula Balanzategui is one shot back, tied for 18th place at even-par 144. Lu opened the day at 1-over par 73 and closed with a 2-under par 70. Balanzategui was among the leaders in the first round after firing a 4-under par 68, but struggled in the second round at 4-over par 76.
Sophomore Shannon Kennedy is tied for 32nd place at 3-over par 147 (76-71), while junior Leila Raines is tied for 47th place at 6-over par 150 (76-74).
Competing as an individual, junior Nina Rissi is tied for 82nd place at 16-over par 160 (80-80).
Michigan State tees off on the first hole on Sunday at 8:30 a.m., playing alongside Ohio State and Penn State.
