DAVIS, Calif. – Washington State men’s golf senior Pono Yanagi posted a top-10 finish at the El Macero Classic, as the Hilo, Hawaii native carded 6-under 210 to finish in a tie for seventh on the player leaderboard.
Yanagi capped off the El Macero Classic by carding 2-under 70 in Sunday’s third round to finish the tournament in a tie for seventh at 6-under 210. It is the senior’s third top-10 finish of the 2022-23 season, while it is Yanagi’s fourth career top-10 finish. The senior posted his career-best to-par score at the El Macero Classic by shooting 6-under during his 54 holes of play, as he shot under par in each of the tournament’s three rounds.
As a team, Washington State finished the El Macero Classic in 10th place on the team leaderboard at 6-over 870. The Cougars concluded the three-day tournament by shooting 3-over 291 in Sunday’s third round to collect WSU’s fifth top-10 team finish of the 2022-23 season.
Junior Preston Bebich also posted a top-25 finish in Davis, California, as he ended the tournament shooting even-par 216. The Gig Harbor, Washington native concluded the El Macero Classic by carding par 72 in the third round. Bebich finished the tournament with the third-best par-4 score by an individual at 3-under.
Np. 45-ranked San Diego finished the third round of the El Macero Classic at 14-under 850 to collect a two-stroke victory over North Texas. USD’s Andi Xu and UCLA’s Omar Morales shared the tournament’s individual title, as each golfer carded 13-under 203 over their three-day stay at the El Macero Country Club.
The Washington State men’s golf team will be back in action April 28-30, as the Cougars are set to participate in the 2023 Pac-12 Men’s Golf Championship.
