Huskies Finish Tied for Fifth at Pac-12 Championships

STANFORD, Calif. — After four competitive rounds at Stanford Golf Course, the Washington men’s golf team tied for a fifth-place finish at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships. The team finished 3-under par, totaling 1,397 strokes over three days of tournament action.
 
The Huskies entered Sunday’s final round in a tie for first, but their hopes of repeating as conference champions were not realized. Stanford, who finished second to Washington when the Huskies hosted last season’s Pac-12 Championships, claimed the title on their home course.
 
“It was a great chance to win the Pac-12s today so to finish fifth is really deflating, said UW coach Alan Murray. “Credit to Stanford who really played exceptional golf and won the tournament… we feel pretty disappointed to not have scored much better today.”
 
Whereas yesterday the Huskies were able to capitalize on challenging course conditions, today’s weather proved to be even tougher to navigate.
 
“The course was really challenging and windy and it was a grind if you got out of position,” said Murray.
 
Bo Peng completed a strong weekend of consistent play by finishing in a tie for 6^th place, and was the highest placing individual for Washington.
 
“Great week from Bo Peng and he continues his improvement and good form,” Murray said.
 
Teddy Lin landed in 12^th place, improving with each successive day at Stanford Golf Course before Sunday. Lin played even through round one on Friday, carded 2-under in round two, then posted a 4-under par Saturday. He finished with a score of 2-under 278, and was arguably the most consistent player for the Huskies this weekend.
 
Petr Hruby and Taehoon Song tied for 20^th overall, scoring even at 280 strokes apiece. Both players scored highest on the first day of the tournament.
 
Freshman Joshua Koo concluded his first trip to the Pac-12 Championships in 50^th place, up seven spots from his position following the end of round three. Robert Galligan was close behind, finishing 60^th among individuals.
 
While the 2023 Pac-12 Championships did not close with the same satisfaction as last year’s victory, the lessons from this weekend can be put immediately to use as the Huskies…
