SAN ANTONIO – The Illinois women’s golf team ended the second round of the NCAA San Antonio Regional in 11th place, after carding a 303 (+15) heading into Sunday’s third and final round at TPC San Antonio.
Crystal Wang jumped 16 spots on the individual leaderboard after her round of 70 (-2), moving into a tie for seventh. After bogeying twice in her first four holes, Wang caught fire to close out the back, picking up two birdies and an eagle to fire a back nine score of 34 (-2). The Diamond Bar, Calif., native shot even par on the front, picking up two more birdies along the way. Wang is in contention for her ninth Top 10 finish of the season.
Siyan Chen was another big mover on the day for the Illini, shooting an even-par 72 to move up 18 spots into a tie for 49th. Chen began her day with a 2-over 38 on the back before going bogey-free on the front, rolling home two birdies to record a 34.
Isabel Sy shot a 76 for the second-straight round and is also tied for 41st with Chen. Lexanne Halama is 62nd after her round of 85 (+13) and Anna Ritter is 65th after her round of 90 (+18).
Texas A&M holds the team lead at 5-over (581) and UTSA’s Camryn Carreo, competing as an individual, leads the field at 6-under (138).
Sunday’s third round begins with tee times at 8:00 a.m. CT. Ritter will begin play for Illinois at 9:06 a.m. CT off of No. 10, with Halama, Chen, Sy and Wang to follow in 11-minute intervals.
