Cats Remain In Fourth After Misemer's 68 at NCAA Regionals

RALEIGH, N.C. – For a second consecutive day at the NCAA Raleigh Regional, Arizona Women’s Golf had a freshman pace them to remain in the hunt to advance to the NCAA Championships. Freshman Julia Misemer fired a 68 on Tuesday to keep the Wildcats in fourth place at 2-over par, which ties Purdue entering Wednesday’s final round. Misemer’s 4-under performance marked the lowest round by an Arizona freshman at NCAA Regionals since Cassandra Kirkland and Erica Blasberg achieved the feat in the 2003 Wake Forest Regional.

“Our team opened the day by playing some great golf that really built some momentum for us,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “We hit a tough stretch of holes after the turn, but I was proud of how our team recovered to end the day with birdies. Julia had an unbelievable round that puts her in elite company in our program’s history, which made this day even more special. We are right in the thick of things going into the final round, and I look forward to seeing this team battle again tomorrow.”

Misemer was locked in from her first tee shot on Tuesday morning as she sank three birdies and an eagle in her first five holes. Her round of 68 was the second lowest of the season, trailing her opening round of 66 at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview. After her opening rounds of 72 and 68, Mismer now sits in a tie for fourth place at 4-under. The sophomore tandem of Carolina Melgrati and Lilas Pinthier each carded rounds of 74 on Tuesday and both sit in the top 30 individually entering Wednesday’s finale.

At the conclusion of Tuesday’s second round, Arizona was one of five teams separated by five strokes in the middle of the leaderboard. The Wildcats hold a one stroke edge over sixth-place Florida State and a two-stroke advantage over TCU. Arizona will be paired with FSU as well as the other fourth-place team, Purdue, on Wednesday for the final round that begins at 5 a.m. (MST). The top five teams from each NCAA Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships later this month in Scottsdale, Arizona.
