Brown Paces Stanford Through 18 Holes


SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The opening day of the NCAA Championship is in the books, with Stanford carding a 10-over par round of 290 strokes. The Cardinal is tied for 17th place through 18 holes.

Senior Barclay Brown is tied for sixth overall after shooting a two-under 68, including five birdies. He is four shots back from the leader, Georgia Tech’s Ross Steelman, while ranking as the top Pac-12 student-athlete on day one.

Karl Vilips (+2) and Ethan Ng (+3), finished with three and two birdies each, respectively, while Michael Thorbjornsen, the Pac-12 Player of the Year, and Nate Menon each shot seven-over rounds of 77. Thorbjornsen ended the round with one birdie while Menon carded two.

Stanford will begin its second round at 6:32 a.m. on Saturday, May 27 along with Arizona State and Texas Tech.
