East Lansing, Mich. – Led by junior Shannon Kennedy, who fired a 3-under par 68 in the first round, Michigan State’s women’s golf team was in ninth place among 17 teams at 2-under par after play was suspended in the middle of the second round due to weather at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament will continue on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. with MSU on the back nine.
The teams in the 17-team field, playing on the par-71, 6.269 yard course at Yeamans Hall, will continue and play the third and final round immediately afterward.
Kennedy is tied for sixth place in the field at 5-under par. She was through 12 holes in the second round and had four birdies and will start Tuesday at 2-under par.
Junior Katie Lu, who shot a 2-under par 69 in the first round, is tied for 17th place at 3-under par. She was through 12 holes in the second round and is at 1-under par.
Sophomore Paula Balanzategui shot a 2-over par 73 in the first round and was tied for 61st lace at 3-over par. She was 1-over par through 12 holes.
Junior Brooke Biermann and senior Leila Raines are tied for 71st place with scores of 4-over par. Biermann posted a 1-over par 72 in the morning round, but was at 3-over par through nine holes in the afternoon before suspension of play. Raines also had a 1-over par 72 in the early round and was at 3-over par through 12 holes.
Freshman Ella Weber, playing as an individual, is tied for eighth place at 4-under par. In her first career collegiate round, Weber fired a 5-under par 66. She was at 1-over par through nine holes in the afternoon round.
